Financial support for new councils

The Stronger Communities Fund has been established by the NSW Government to provide new councils with funding to kick-start the delivery of important local projects that improve community infrastructure and services.

Under the Fund, new councils will receive up to $15 million to spend on priority community initiatives such as local roads, parks, playgrounds and footpaths. Local community groups will be able to apply for community grants of up to $50,000 for projects that may include upgrading club facilities, funding of sporting equipment, or providing tools and equipment to improve the delivery of community services. Importantly, new councils and their communities will decide how to spend their community funds.
The NSW Government has developed a set of Guidelines to assist councils to understand their obligations in relation to the Stronger Communities Fund, including requirements for consultation, prioritisation, governance and reporting. Councils are responsible for determining projects, consistent with these Guidelines.
